How to use a condom during vaginal or anal sex.
The following instructions explain the proper use of condoms.
We have chosen to address you directly to ensure that the instructions are readily understandable. But of course the single steps can be carried out by either you or your partner.
1. Opening the condom wrapper.
Open the condom package and get the foil packaging with the condom out. Carefully open the condom wrapper using the zig-zag edges on either side of the wrapper and take the condom out with your fingers.
Make sure not to tear the condom with any sharp objects such as your fingernails or jewellery.
2. Putting on the condom, squeezing the tip of the condom with two fingers
You can put on the condom as soon as the penis is erect and the foreskin has been pulled back (if the penis is uncircumcised).
Hold the tip of the condom between your forefinger and thumb and place the condom over the tip of the penis (the glans).
3. Unrolling the condom
While squeezing the tip of the condom with one hand, roll the condom down to the base of the erect penis with the other hand. The rubber ring of the condom might feel constricting when placed on the tip of the penis. This feeling usually disappears as soon as the condom is unrolled.
If the condom will not unroll, it is probably on inside out. Do not flip and re-apply the condom as this might transfer body fluids to your partner. Start over with a new condom and check which way the condom is rolled.
If the man’s body is not accustomed to the use of condoms, the penis might go flaccid while the condom is being put on. In this case it can be helpful for the man to practice the use of condoms by himself at first.
4. Having sex, checking the condom during use
While the penis penetrates the vagina or anus (or is sliding in and out), it is important to periodically check the proper fit of the condom with one hand. Many condoms are coated with a lubricant.
In some cases additional lubricant might be needed to easily insert the penis with the condom.
It is recommendable to apply some lubricant on the outside of the condom before penetration. Most shops that sell condoms
also offer lubricants suitable for the use with condoms.
Attention: Never use oil-based lubricants such as Vaseline, baby oil, body lotion, massage oil, butter or margarine as it can cause condoms to break.
5. Holding the condom in place while withdrawing
The penis should be carefully withdrawn right after the ejaculation. It should also be withdrawn as soon as the penis goes flaccid, the condom slips or is much too tense.
Hold the condom in place by grabbing the ring of the condom to prevent it from slipping off.
6. Disposing of the condom after single use
Remove the condom from the penis and tie a knot in the end of the condom to prevent the spillage of sperm.
Place the used condom in a rubbish bin, do not flush it down the toilet.
Penis and hands should be washed. If you want to continue having sex you should have more condoms on hand.
